Description

These Fluffy Whole Wheat Waffles are light, delicious, and packed with flavor. Perfect for a healthy breakfast, they combine whole wheat flour, buttermilk, and a hint of cinnamon, ensuring a delightful start to your day with simple preparation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (260g) whole wheat flour, spooned & leveled
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons (25g) packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1 and 3/4 cups (420g/ml) buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the waffle maker on medium-high heat and the oven to 200°F (93°C). Place a wire rack on a baking sheet and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the melted butter, eggs, and brown sugar. Mix in the buttermilk and vanilla until well combined. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and whisk gently without over-mixing; some lumps are fine.
  4. Grease the preheated waffle maker. Pour approximately 1/3 cup of the batter into each section of the waffle maker, close the lid, and cook until crisp, about 4-5 minutes. Place cooked waffles on the wire rack in the oven to keep warm while cooking the remaining batter.
  5. Serve the waffles immediately with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For lighter waffles, avoid over-mixing the batter; it’s okay to have small lumps.
Experiment with toppings such as fresh fruit, maple syrup, or yogurt for added flavor.
