Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ cups butter (softened)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 ½ tbsp vanilla
  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tbsp baking powder
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • 4 cups confectioner's sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 23 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
  2. Prepare four 9-inch round cake pans by spraying them with cooking spray. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat again until well mixed.
  5. Add the flour, baking powder, and salt. Beat again until combined.
  6. Slowly pour in the milk while continuously beating until the batter is smooth.
  7. Divide the batter equally into 4 bowls.
  8. Add one color of food coloring gel to each bowl and mix until vibrant.
  9. Transfer each colored batter into a prepared cake pan.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  11. Allow cakes to cool for 15 minutes before flipping them out onto parchment paper to cool completely.
  12. For the frosting, beat the softened butter and confectioner's sugar together until crumbly.
  13. Add the vanilla and 2 tablespoons of milk. Beat again until combined.
  14. Adjust the consistency with more milk, if necessary.
  15. Assemble the cake by layering the cake and frosting alternately.
  16. Finish off by frosting the top and adding sprinkles.

Notes

For brighter cake layers, adjust the amount of food coloring to your liking.
Ensure your butter is softened for smoother blending in both cake and frosting preparation.
Allow the cakes to cool completely for better stacking and frosting.
