Description

This Apple Pie is a timeless favorite with its flaky crust and tender apple filling. It’s simple to make and perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a family dinner or a cozy gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces Crisco
  • 1/2 cup water, cold
  • 12 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour and salt. Incorporate the Crisco using your fingers until it resembles coarse meal. Make a well in the center and add the cold water.
  2. Gently bring the flour mixture into the well with the water, mixing until combined. Avoid overmixing. Divide the dough into two pieces, form flat discs, wrap them in plastic, and let rest in the cooler for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  3. After resting, remove the dough from the wrap and roll it out on a floured surface to a circle about 1/4" thick, ensuring it hangs over the pie plate edge.
  4. Line a 9" pie plate with the rolled dough. Roll out the second disc to the same thickness and cut it into 3/4" strips for the top crust. Place these on a tray and chill while preparing the pie filling.

Notes

For a deeper flavor, let the pie rest before serving to allow the juices to set.
Feel free to mix different apple varieties for added texture and taste.
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful dessert.
