Ingredients
Scale
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups 2% milk
- 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 1–2 tablespoons buffalo hot sauce
- 1 lb. cooked noodles
Instructions
- Melt the unsalted butter in a large pot over medium-high heat. Whisk in the all-purpose flour immediately after, cooking for 1β2 minutes until a smooth paste forms.
- Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Cook over medium-high heat for 4β6 minutes until thickened enough to coat a spoon.
- Once thickened, remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese slowly, whisking until fully melted to keep the sauce smooth.
- Add granulated garlic, buffalo hot sauce, and salt, adjusting seasoning to taste. If too thick, mix in a little warm milk to loosen it.
- Immediately combine the cheese sauce with hot cooked noodles to ensure even coating. Serve right away for the best texture.
Notes
For a spicier kick, adjust the buffalo sauce to your preference.
Make sure to use freshly shredded cheese for the best melting quality.
Serve with additional toppings like breadcrumbs or herbs for added flavor.
