Description

This Caramel Apple Crisp with Crunchy Oat Topping combines the tartness of granny smith apples with sweet caramel and a crunchy oat finish. It’s an ideal dessert for gatherings or a cozy night in, providing comforting flavors and simple preparation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 granny smith apples, cut into 1/2" pieces
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 8 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. In a bowl, mix diced apples with lemon juice until coated. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon over the apples, tossing to combine, then transfer to a 9-inch pie plate.
  3. Drizzle 1/2 cup of caramel sauce over the apple mixture and set it aside.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine softened butter, 1/2 cup of flour, 2/3 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 3/4 cup of oats. Mix until it forms crumbles.
  5. Spread the oat topping evenly over the apple mixture.
  6. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool slightly and drizzle with additional caramel before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding chopped nuts to the oat topping.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.
Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated for a delicious snack.
