Ingredients
Scale
- 3 granny smith apples
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1 pinch nutmeg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 12 ounces pound cake
- 8 ounces cool whip
- 6 tablespoons caramel sauce
Instructions
- Peel and chop the apples into small cubes and place them in a medium saucepan.
- Add lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar to the apples and stir well.
- Simmer the mixture over medium heat for about 10 minutes until the apples soften and the sugar melts into a syrup.
- Allow the mixture to cool, but not completely cold.
- Cut the pound cake into bite-sized cubes.
- Fill a piping bag (or a zip-top bag with a snipped corner) with Cool Whip.
- Layer the ingredients in serving glasses: start with pound cake cubes, then a layer of the apple mixture, followed by a drizzle of caramel sauce and a layer of Cool Whip.
- Repeat the layers of pound cake, apples, caramel, and Cool Whip one more time. Finish with a drizzle of caramel on top. Serve immediately or refrigerate.
Notes
You can use any type of cake you prefer in place of pound cake, such as angel food or white cake.
For a richer taste, use homemade caramel sauce instead of store-bought.
Feel free to garnish with extra apple slices or nuts for added crunch.
