Description

These Crockpot Sloppy Joes offer rich flavors with simple ingredients like ground beef, tomatoes, and spices, making them an ideal choice for a quick, homemade meal that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 ½ cups ketchup
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • Burger buns
  • Pickles
  • Shredded cheddar
  • Coleslaw

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess grease if necessary.
  2. Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet, cooking for 3 to 4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  3. Transfer the beef mixture into the slow cooker.
  4. Mix in the ketchup, tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, chili powder, kosher salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Ensure everything is well combined.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours or on high for 2 to 3 hours until the mixture is thick and flavorful.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt, vinegar, or brown sugar as desired. If the mixture is too loose, cook uncovered on high for 15 to 20 minutes to thicken.
  7. Serve the mixture on toasted buns with toppings like pickles, shredded cheddar, and coleslaw.

Notes

For a healthier option, use ground turkey instead of beef.
Feel free to adjust the level of spices according to your preference.
These Sloppy Joes can also be frozen for later enjoyment.
