Description

These Halloween Sugar Cookies (Lofthouse Style!) are simply delightful, featuring a soft texture and luscious frosting. With a few key ingredients and straightforward steps, you can create these festive treats that are perfect for Halloween celebrations and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • orange & purple & green food coloring
  • halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cornstarch; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar with an electric mixer for about 5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Stir in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, followed by the sour cream.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and combine until just incorporated to avoid overmixing.
  5. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic, and chill in the fridge for at least one hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F before baking.
  7. Roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into circles with a 3-inch cookie cutter.
  8. Arrange the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8-9 minutes, aiming for a barely baked look for a soft texture.
  9. Allow cookies to completely cool before frosting them.
  10. For the buttercream, beat softened butter until fluffy, then mix in powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  11. Gradually add milk until achieving a smooth, spreadable texture; adjust with more milk if necessary.
  12. Divide frosting into three bowls, coloring each with different food colors as desired.
  13. Frost each cookie using a piping bag or offset spatula, and finish with Halloween sprinkles.

Notes

For extra flavor, use high-quality vanilla and almond extracts.
Ensure the cookies are cooled completely before applying frosting to avoid melting.
Feel free to customize the food coloring and sprinkles according to your Halloween theme.
