Description

These Homemade Garlic Rolls offer an irresistible flavor and simple preparation. Made with fresh ingredients like all-purpose flour and garlic powder, they’re perfect for any meal, whether it’s a quick dinner or a comforting side.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ¾ to 5 ¼ cups (589-651g) all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup (67g) granulated sugar
  • 2 envelopes instant yeast
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • ¾ cup (177ml) milk
  • ¾ cup (177ml) water
  • ¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In a large mixer bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt, whisking together.
  2. In a measuring cup, heat milk, water, and 1/4 cup of butter until very warm (120° to 130°F).
  3. Pour the warm mixture into the flour mixture and beat for 2 minutes at medium speed, scraping the bowl occasionally.
  4. Add the egg and 1/2 cup of flour; beat for 2 minutes at high speed.
  5. Gradually mix in remaining flour until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  7. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  8. For make-ahead, place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and refrigerate for 12 to 24 hours.
  9. Divide the dough in half and roll each half into a 12-inch square, about 1/4-inch thick.
  10. Cut each square into 6 strips and each strip into 3 rectangles.
  11. In a small bowl, mix together filling ingredients.
  12. Brush each rectangle with the melted butter mixture, fold, and roll into a spiral. Arrange on greased baking sheets with the seams facing down, allowing space between each row.
  13. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  14. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  15. Bake for 13 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack and brush with any remaining butter mixture.

Notes

For a garlic lover’s kick, increase the garlic powder to taste.
These rolls can be made ahead of time and refrigerated, allowing for a convenient preparation process.
