Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • kosher salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add grated garlic and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring often until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the dried oregano and crushed red pepper, cooking for another minute until aromatic.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and sugar, then lower the heat to let it simmer.
  5. Simmer the mixture for approximately 20 minutes until it thickens.
  6. Stir in unsalted butter and season with salt and freshly ground pepper to taste; allow to cool to room temperature.

Notes

Adjust the seasoning with fresh herbs like basil for added flavor.
Store the sauce in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for later use.
