This Homemade Spaghetti Sauce offers an irresistible flavor that’s easy to prepare. Made with ground beef, fresh herbs, and tomatoes, it’s perfect for a cozy dinner!

- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion diced (about 1 cup)
- 1 pound ground beef 90/10 or 80/20 lean
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- Black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 4 cloves garlic grated or minced
- 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
- 15 ounce can tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 parmesan cheese rind optional, but recommended
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
- Add ground beef and diced onion; season with salt and pepper. Cook until browned, draining excess grease.
- Stir in tomato paste, garlic, worcestershire sauce, and dried herbs. Cook for 1 minute.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and 1 cup of water. Swirl the cans to incorporate any remaining sauce, then pour in.
- Mix in sugar and balsamic vinegar; add Parmesan cheese rind. Bring to a boil, cover, and then simmer for 30 minutes.
- After simmering, stir in chopped fresh basil. Serve promptly over noodles or store for later use.
Notes
The sauce can be refrigerated for up to a week or frozen for longer storage.
Adjust seasonings to taste; try adding red pepper flakes for a bit of heat.
Serve with spaghetti for a classic meal, or use it as a base for lasagna.
