Description

This Homemade Spaghetti Sauce offers an irresistible flavor that’s easy to prepare. Made with ground beef, fresh herbs, and tomatoes, it’s perfect for a cozy dinner!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion diced (about 1 cup)
  • 1 pound ground beef 90/10 or 80/20 lean
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 4 cloves garlic grated or minced
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 parmesan cheese rind optional, but recommended
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef and diced onion; season with salt and pepper. Cook until browned, draining excess grease.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, garlic, worcestershire sauce, and dried herbs. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and 1 cup of water. Swirl the cans to incorporate any remaining sauce, then pour in.
  5. Mix in sugar and balsamic vinegar; add Parmesan cheese rind. Bring to a boil, cover, and then simmer for 30 minutes.
  6. After simmering, stir in chopped fresh basil. Serve promptly over noodles or store for later use.

Notes

The sauce can be refrigerated for up to a week or frozen for longer storage.
Adjust seasonings to taste; try adding red pepper flakes for a bit of heat.
Serve with spaghetti for a classic meal, or use it as a base for lasagna.
