Description

These Puppy Chow Brownies offer a delightful combination of rich chocolate flavor, creamy peanut butter frosting, and crunchy puppy chow. Perfect for dessert lovers, they’re simple to make and are sure to impress at any gathering!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Dutch-processed cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder, optional
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/4 cups chopped chocolate, divided
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream, or whole milk
  • 3 cups puppy chow

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Incorporate the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until combined. Stir in the flour, cocoa powder, espresso powder (if using), and salt until just mixed. Fold in 1 cup of chopped chocolate.
  3. Spread the brownie batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle 1/4 cup of chopped chocolate on top. Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, checking with a toothpick until a few moist crumbs stick. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan completely.
  4. In a stand mixer, blend the peanut butter and softened butter until creamy. Mix in the powdered sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and heavy cream until fluffy.
  5. Evenly spread the peanut butter frosting over the cooled brownies.
  6. Sprinkle the puppy chow over the frosting, gently pressing it down to stick.
  7. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder.
Make sure the brownies are completely cooled before frosting to maintain a nice appearance.
